Selected South Korean Thriller Movie List
–let’s say Part 1–
(1) Memories Of Murder [2003]
(2) Thirst [2009]
(3) Parasite [2019]
(1) Memories Of Murder [2003]
Don’t know which is more serious, “Doubtful” or “Inconclusively”. In movies and books that most people are obsessed with, the main feeling is “uncertainty”. There is no RIGHT, there is no WRONG. There is no GAIN nor LOSS. Sometimes, it is more fun to watch movies which could not be ruled out certain emotion.
Director Bong Joon-ho, who designed this film, was even accepted by Hollywood, and all his works are really good. The main reason of choosing this film is because it accurately captures the exchange of views that nothing can be defined.
Even if you say the sky is blue in front of someone, he/she says that you are wrong, it is brown. Then what can we do with it? In our mind’s eye, a truth that has been accepted a long time but people around don’t accept it. How can you prove your truth in this situation? In this film, which focuses on such uncertainties, the director did not reveal the result that the audience wanted back. He presents this film in the sense of sitting and watching a family quarrel next to his house, rather than a movie.
For the truth,
– Exact Evidence
– Confession
– Exact time
The main need for this is an eyewitness. Yes, this is on point.
In this movie, the director did not reveal the identity of the killer at all. He lets all the viewers to think their own selves. Also shaping the outside world to be the same kind of detective story. The movie that lasts two hours plus duration gives us “think of that person, think of this person” and our mind will be confused with the characters. That is one of the highlights of this movie. Enjoy it!
(2) Thirst [2009]
As soon as Park Chan Wook’s movie is mentioned, Korean movie fans will immediately want to watch it. His movies always break away from the traditional storyline. It definitely gives you another different taste from this movie.
An ailment that most people do not dare to avoid, feelings of depression, defective sexual attachment, you will find them in most of his films. He presented these disgusting issues by combining with beautiful shots and melodious background music.
For moviegoers who are not enjoying adult films, it can be a little confusing. Presentations that do not follow the audience is his creative ability to do so. You will see non-fictional plot compositions as new and unacceptable things in the real world mixed with beautiful events. Art has no boundaries, no limits. This is the balance between Humanity and Inhumanity. Existence and absence of religion according to the will. You can find out those in this movie “THIRST”.
What will happen? How will it end?
As mentioned above, this is the work of director Park Chan Wook, it is sure that it won’t be what we thought it would be. What a beautiful piece of art on a rough plot, just enjoy! You will know then. π
(3) Parasite [2019]
Here again!
Another masterpiece of director Bong Joon Ho, Parasite [2019] the first South Korean film to win a leading four awards of OSCARS (92nd Academy Awards) and Palme d’Or (2019 Cannes Film Festival). This is black comedy thriller film and considered by many critics to be the best film of 2019 and one of the greatest films of the 21st century.
This is a well written and well performed original film. In this movie, a high-class mansion is portrayed as a modern world but Song Kang Ho and his family grew up in a moldy basement. They are the lower classes who have achieved nothing. At first you see like this differently. Aren’t these realities that you do not know how to find a good way to get angry? The great imbalance of the world is nothing we can do but feel compassionate and angry.
Whatever, now that this is a movie. Isn’t it true that Bong Joon is responsible for satisfying our fans? He represented a very clever plot and an engaging group of characters to play the relationship between the wealthy Park family and the destitute Kim clan. But in the end, the director opened the way for those trapped people. Highly recommended movie. Must watch. Enjoy!
Knight & Light are Dragon.
