I would like to apologise to my article readers that I had serious backache last week so I couldn’t write and sit long as well. It is getting better now. I hope I can write more because I stay in during the burmese new year festival. As you know, the security in our country is critical situation. I wish you all be safe and healthy from now and then.
I wrote about Netherland which is neighboring county of Belgium ,both are small but very clean and systematic. That’s why the head office of European Union is in Brussels. That building is very big and modern, european flags are flying in front of it. Once, mom delivery the address there.
Majority of belgium people speak french. They are famous for diamond polishing. Some jewelry shops in Burma sell belgium diamonds. Diamond trading is one of their main income. A few years ago, there was terrorist attack in Brussels airport so security is very tight. We can hear the horn of police very often in the town centre. Sometimes, my clients were so nervous when they heard it.
We stayed overnight in Brussels in 2018. It was very existing because the hotel where we stayed was just next to the railway station, very busy place .We took great care of pick-pockets and robbers. The hotel manager told us to stay in group and luggage and hand carry should be in hand otherwise you lose, never get back. The thieves in Europe are so clever they can manage to open the new model buses and cars doors. It is truth, next morning our driver informed me he lost microphone, GPS and a coffee machine were stolen last night. Anyone in our group lost something, he asked? Right some clients of mine lost warm clothes which they left in the coach.
On the way to Brussels, we had a bad experience that I never forget. Our driver told me that there is an accident about twenty kilometers from here which made very bad traffic jam. It is about 10 kilometers long that made me challenging because time is precious while we are traveling in Europe. I can’t miss lunch in Brussels so I called the restaurant where I booked for lunch. The manager of restaurant knew about the serious traffic jam and accident on the way. She asked me what time will we arrive? I answered her that I don’t know exactly. It depend on the accident. Anyway, I’ll call you half an hour ahead.
Thousand of cars and coaches were in line for two hours. Some clients of mine wanted to go to toilet but no toilet and no bushes to hide.I gave them suggestion how to go to toilet in public. First, use an umbrella or a piece of clothe. Some asked me. Umbrellas are ok but what does a piece of cloth for? Ok, good question. You can blind your eyes with a piece of cloth. If you can’t see anything or anyone, you don’t need to feel shy. The laugh burst out and got off to do their urgent business on the road side. I understand, Burmese are pioneer because some more europeans followed the Burmese footsteps.
We arrived at the restaurant about 2 pm. So we quickly had lunch and went sightseeing in the hub of Brussels where the Grand Palace, Manneken piss and gallery. The Grand Palace is beside the square which looks so fantastic architecture. The square is 223 by 361 ft. The palace construction began in the 11th century and largely completed in 17th. Most of the square was destroyed during the Nine Years’ War in 1695. The Brussels Town hall constructed in 1402 is a remarkable building both are just around the square. Many food and gift shops are near there. The most popular one is Manneken piss that is only 50 cm, bronze statue. It’s also known as a small naked boy urinating into a fountain’s basin. Some people believed that the statue saved Brussels from fire and natural disasters. The original statue start in 1619 but it was stolen . Normally this small boy statue is naked but during the festival and special occasions it dresses up.
As the statue is very small and among the shops the visitors are hard to notice it.I always give advise to my clients to have a look the peeing statue first and go shopping later. Another tourist interest is Atomium which is a land mark building Brussels. Originally constructed for the 1958 Brussels World’s Fair. It is a unique creation of modern architecture that’s why it stands one of the tourists attraction nowadays.
I’ll continue to write another interesting places next week.
