Yaw

Burma has a lot of beautiful places of interest. I can’t finish my words to talk about them. Some are religious site, historical site, cultural site and nature site. Normally , we usually go to normal religious sites such as Bagan , Mandalay and Inle but Sometimes, we travel unspoilt countryside where we can learn something that we can’t get in the cities. Farmers, gardeners, hill tribes, different species of trees & flowers.

Five years ago, we went to Yaw, a small town in central Burma. I heard a popular song of Liberty Ma Mya Yin about Yaw when I was a young boy, ” my beloved sweetheart travelling one after another villages with shoulder bag ” which expressed about traditional physician. Ones, the citizens from practice about traditional medicine so physicians from Yaw area were well known. They speak burmese language with strong accent. Sometimes, a bit difficult to understand but okay later. Yaw area is located in the Yaw plane the climate is very good not as hot as Pakokku or Bagan.

People have got fairer complexion than other people in arid area. They are very courage and industrious people. Men and women work very hard. Formerly , men were toddy climbers. Ladies made palm sugar, weaved the clothes & blankets for sell. Yaw longyi design has been very popular among burmese until now. White flower patterns in the black. It is very hard to get water in this area in summer. That’s why some aged have eye problem .

Some youths in Yaw are daredevil. They built hunter tower at the nearly top of toddy palm tree where they usually drink and take a rest in the evening. There is breeze on the hunter tower when it is hot in the village but very dangerous due to lack of cover or fence. There were a group of ladies cooking on the roadside when we drove pass a village. We stopped car and enquired what they are doing. They said, they are making sweet Pancake for initiation ceremony. They are very friendly.They served us to try their Pancake. Very good taste not only me but also my clients loved it.

Sometimes. unexpected dreams come truth. They discovered the crude oil in that area. They hit the jackpot. A lot of oil hunters around the country arrived there. The farmers rent their land so they earn money.Thousand of young people got jobs. Their lives transformed better within overnight. As they use light machines , they know about machinery very well without any certificate. It is very useful nowadays. They know how to make homemade weapons to revolt against junta’s army.

The crude oil digging field is quiet large especially Myaing and Pauk area which is in connection with Yaw.

A lot of makeshift huts blanket the field. Some lucky men easily discovered the oil in short time but others reached breakeven. Not only oil field workers but also sellers are doing businesses so which is like makeshift towns.The cyclists are very skillful who ride on the stoney way and potholes but nothing happen.

The development of Yaw and surrounding area escalated within a decay but there is hard luck after the coup in 2021. Military followed a four-cut technique, such as cut financial assistance, information , communication & food supply .

Many hand digging oil field were burnt. They believe that People Defence Force got the assistance from the oil field. It is pity now, thousand of people lost job and nowhere to live. Misfortune never comes alone, we have been suffering from COVID 19 and civil war again.

If there is peace in Burma, Yaw area will pick up quicker than other places because they have natural resources and industrious people. They can design their native places better. Another interesting thing in this area is that the geologists discovered fossil primates called Pondaundgia in 1927 and 1937 in this area. The latest discovery was in Bahin village, Myaing township in 1997 which is one of the earliest primates, the scholars said.

If I have chance, I would like to show you interesting remote countryside in Burma.
